You’re going to discover Component #5 of The Consistency System which is Tracking your progress everyday.
The late business guru Peter Drucker once famously said,
“What gets measured gets improved.”
By that, he meant that you can’t know how well you’re doing unless you track what you do.
Most people take on new goals without any tracking.
If you don’t track or measure, not only will you not know how you’re doing, but the process will also become extremely boring and discouraging. It is very hard to stay consistent when you have no idea how close you are to the finish line.
Tracking Creates Consistency
Not only does tracking give you hope, but it also becomes a game that creates consistency.
Jerry Seinfeld, comedian and actor, once shared that what made him consistent was using a simple calendar. Every time he wrote a joke, he put a big “X” on that day.
He did this for a few days, and then the next thing you know, he never wanted to end that streak. His whole goal was to write a joke each day so that he could put the big “X” on the calendar (jamesclear.com).
I had one of my coaching clients apply Seinfeld’s calendar routine, and, within a few weeks, he went from struggling to being one of the most consistent salespeople I know.
Tracking Your Sales Numbers and Conversion
If you only track one thing in any business, it should be your sales process. It’ll reveal how consistent and productive you are.
For example, you can track:
How many people do you need to talk to before they agree to listen to a presentation?
How many presentations do you have to do before someone becomes a customer?
This can be expanded into marketing by tracking things like the number of people who need to see your ad before you get a sale.
Most new salespeople burn out and quit because they don’t track their numbers. However, if you know your numbers, it’ll help you stay motivated because you’ll know that you’re getting closer to a result.
Other examples of tracking are your time spent for an activity and also doing a simple recap at the end of each day.
